Press release on opening of the polling centers

The coalition of non-governmental organizations ‘Democracy in action-elections 2007’, is observing the second round of the elections for the mayors in all 23 municipalities where the second round is being held.

Currently the coalition is covering 1960 polling stations in municipalities in question, where the observers are present since the opening of the polling centers until the closing of these centers. 28 polling stations (10 in the municipality of Podujevo, 17 in the Prizeren municipality and on in Prishtina municipality), are not being covered with permanent coalition observers, but through mobile teams.

Polling stations where the Serb community constitutes majority are also being monitored, but through mobile teams made of representatives of the Serb NGO’s, members of the coalition.

Overall during the first hours of the morning the number of voters in the polls is small.

Opening of the polling stations

Prishtina

In Prishtina region all the polling centers have been opened in time and the voting has commenced. There were no delays or incidents reported. Our observers who are already on the ground have noticed these irregularities: PDK observers in Prishtina have badges with different color, which are distinguishable from others observers and may constitute identification with a specific political entity. In Podujeva in one polling center established in a school in the village Gllamnik, a party material (LDK material) has been noticed. There, the same material has been removed by the management of this polling center.

Peja

Peja region also reported that all polling stations have been opened at 7:00AM, with the exceptions of of a half an hour delay, due to missing stamp, in a polling station in Poqeste. The atmosphere is reported as calm and voting proces is taking place without obstacles.

Mitrovica

Polling center in the region of Mitrovica have been opened in time and the voting has started. From our observers has not been reported any incedent or irregularity. Exception is the north of Mitrovica where the polling centers have not been opened and as a result the voting is not being held.

Ferizaj

It is being reported that in the Ferizaj region all the polling centers have been opened. Voting has started and no incedents and irregularities have been reported so far.

Gjakova

In the region of Gjakova, observers of the “ Democracy in Action” have reported that all the polling stations have been opened and the voting has commenced. The situation is calm and there are no irregularities observed.

Gjilani

In the region of Gjilan all polling centers have been opened. Voting has started and no incedents and irregullarities have been reported until now.

Prizren

Polling centers in the region of Prizeren have been opened in time and voting has commenced. No incedents or irregullarities are reported.
